Refuge Trauma & Counseling Center is an Invaluable Resource for Returning Veterans and Others Recovering from Trauma

January 23 09:45 2015

More than half of all adult men have endured some form of trauma in their lives, whether it is combat, childhood abuse or criminal assault. While not everyone will develop Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder or PTSD, it is estimated that almost eight percent of the U.S. population will suffer from PTSD at some point in their lives, and more than five million will struggle with this life threatening condition each year. The Refuge Trauma & Counseling Center is a newly established organization that offers a place of healing for these hurt and suffering individuals.

Planned as a three tier care and counseling facility, the Refuge Trauma & Counseling Center will be established in Willis, Texas. Level One care will offer outpatient treatment—primarily counseling—to PTSD sufferers and their families. Level Two will include seven day inpatient treatment with flexibility for professional and familial responsibilities. Level Three care is intensive nine month inpatient treatment that may include stabilization, trauma treatment and reunification. Any of these tiers may include treatments like cognitive behavioral therapies or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, which are intended to ease the transition to normalized life activities.

The Refuge Trauma & Counseling Center will be a major resource for many returning veterans and abuse victims, but it will require substantial financing to become viable.  Founded by a U.S. Military veteran who was himself a victim of PTSD, and a Licensed Professional Counselor whose specialization is Trauma and Disassociation, the Refuge Trauma & Counseling Center may be the last hope for many suffering the horrendous after effects of combat and victimization. To fund this project, the founders of the Refuge Trauma & Counseling Center have sponsored a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo to raise $250,000.

In return for your generous support, you may receive perks like “Thank You” in the newsletter, memorialization on the website, RTCC hoodies, advertising space in the newsletter, or memorialization on the RTCC facility.
